A Productive Friday

John does this thing where when my alarms go off early in the morning (I usually have four, which drives him nuts), he waits until I reach over to turn it off and then he grabs and pulls me into his arms, making it very hard to get out of bed. I only had two alarms set this morning-- 6:31 & 7:36 (I like random #s.) I didn't get out of bed until after 9. Thanks boyfriend. So after I finally got up and had my coffee, my Friday began. I love my Thursdays & Fridays. They are usually filled...

Errands in Philly

Errands in Philly

This past Saturday, John and I ventured into Philly to buy some art supplies, run a few other errands, and eat/drink. We both decided to leave our cameras at home, for we had to postpone our trip a few hours and the sun was about to go down. So instead we used our camera phones and got some grainy, low-key (and sometimes out of focus) shots. I then had some fun in Photoshop with them. Parking was a disaster so we ended up paying to park in a lot. We had a blast in our toy store (aka Dick Blick)...

Ink the Print

Ink the Print

About 4 years ago, I painted a psychological self-portrait for an art class. During the group critique, everyone seemed to really like it and apparently my technique reminded them of the process of silkscreening. I've always loved Warhol's work and the Pop Art Movement, but I didn't know anything about the printing technique. Since that night I had been curious about trying it. About a year later John and I bought our first screens & inks from the local arts & crafts store. We created designs, developed screens, and hand-pulled them onto canvas and other materials. In the fall of...

Those Who Draw: Drawers?

Those Who Draw: Drawers?

Those who paint are painters. Those who sculpt are sculptors. Those who photograph are photographers. Those who draw are...artists. Drawing is one of the oldest forms of traditional art and growing up I assumed that to be an artist, one would have to be great with a pencil and paper. So I guess I crossed that out on my "what I want to be when I grow up" list. I've never felt natural or comfortable drawing. I've always found it to be frustrating. My father is very artistic and he is very talented when it comes to illustration. I'd say...

Left-eyed

Left-eyed

Like majority of people, the right side of my body is my dominant side. YET, it wasn't until it was pointed out during a photography class in college (by John, I believe) that I realized I was left-eyed. About 1/3 of the population are left-eye dominant. Apparently being right-handed & left-eyed makes me "cross-dominant." I'll take it. Looking through the viewfinder with my right eye feels so unnatural. Not sure of your eye dominance? Pick up a camera and look through the viewfinder. But since the average person doesn't look through viewfinders anymore, here's an easy eye dominance test... 1....
